Course objectives
This 12-weeks Malayalam language course is aimed at students who would like to learn conversational Malayalam starting with Malayalam basics. The course introduces everyday language and includes activities to practice all four language skills: reading comprehension, writing, listening comprehension and speaking. This course uses reference materials, cultural notes, grammar explanations, functions of language, etc. Students will be able to monitor their progress by taking a number of performance tests and a final achievement test.
After completing this course, you will be prepared to introduce yourself, ask basic questions, and conduct a brief conversation in Malayalam.
Course Content
C&G’s Malayalam Language Training & Certificationwill essentially begin with foundational topics that help learners build a strong base. Here are some key areas to include:
1. Malayalam Alphabet and Pronunciation:
Introduce the Malayalam alphabet (also known as the Malayalam script) and its pronunciation.
Teach learners how to read and write Malayalam characters.
2. Basic Vocabulary and Phrases:
Start with common greetings, introductions, and polite expressions.
Cover essential vocabulary related to numbers, colors, family members, days of the week, and everyday objects.
3. Grammar Basics:
Nouns, pronouns, and basic verb conjugations (present tense).
Simple sentence structures (subject verb object).
4. Useful Expressions and Survival Phrases:
Teach learners how to ask for directions, order food, or make simple requests.
Provide basic conversational phrases for everyday situations.
5. Cultural Insights:
Briefly introduce Malayalam-speaking culture, customs, and traditions.
Discuss cultural norms related to greetings, personal space, and social interactions.
6. Listening and Speaking Practice:
Provide audio resources for listening comprehension.
Encourage speaking practice through dialogues, roleplaying, and interactive exercises.
7. Reading and Writing Skills:
Start with simple texts (short sentences, signs) to improve reading skills.
Focus on speaking skills rather than learning Malayalam characters initially (making it accessible and enjoyable).
